The Stories That Survive Two Honest Passes
Some narratives won’t survive the first revision.
Others survive the first one and reveal themselves on the second.
Cycle 2’s narrative work is about what’s still holding after the initial examination.
THE PULSE CHECK
Which of the stories you revised five weeks ago has actually integrated into how you operate, and which one quietly returned to its original form?
Physical Pillar
The story you told yourself about your body in June, did it hold in July? Or did the old narrative slip back in when nobody was watching? The body’s story is one of the easiest to revise temporarily and one of the hardest to revise permanently.
Mental Pillar
Mental narratives are sticky. The belief about your own intelligence, your capacity to learn, your willingness to be wrong, these tend to reassert themselves after brief revisions. Cycle 2’s question is which one snapped back.
Emotional Pillar
Emotional narratives, the script you run when conflict arrives, the story about whether your feelings are too much, are usually the most durable. Five weeks is rarely enough. Notice without judgment which one has returned and which has actually shifted.
Spiritual Pillar
The spiritual narrative often shifts in the wrong direction during cycles. The practice expands. The story about why you do the practice quietly narrows. The narrative gets thinner while the action gets fuller. That’s worth catching.
Professional Pillar
The story about who you are professionally is constantly being reinforced by feedback from the environment. If the environment hasn’t changed, the story usually reverts. Cycle 2 may reveal that the revision requires environmental change, not just internal reframing.
Relational Pillar
Relational narratives carry the weight of every prior interaction with the person. Revising the story about a specific relationship requires the relationship itself to participate in the revision. Five weeks of internal work alone rarely produces durable relational narrative change.
Financial Pillar
The financial story almost always reverts after a brief revision. The scarcity narrative, the abundance narrative, the avoidance narrative, these were installed early and carry compounding momentum. Cycle 2 catches the reversion before it calcifies.
Purpose Pillar
Purpose narratives shift slowly. If you tried to revise yours in Cycle 1, the question now isn’t whether it worked. It’s whether the revision found anything truer to actually live by. If yes, hold. If no, the work needs another pass.
The Story
Some narratives don’t yield to single passes. They require generations of honest return. Those assessments are often brought on by holidays and cultural traditions that can quickly fade as after the event passes. Some narratives/stories require multiple passes of truth revelation, because each pass exposes a layer the previous one couldn’t reach. Our beliefs are ingrained into our nervous system. It takes time to ‘train’ new beliefs and narratives into our nervous system before the old narrative(s) are replaced.
The ONE thing: Your Practice This Week
Take one narrative you thought you revised previously.
Test it this week. Is it actually different in your operating decisions, or is the language different while the behavior is the same? The behavior is the diagnostic. Language follows narrative. Behavior reveals it.
The Edge
A narrative that reverts after one revision isn’t a failed revision. It’s a story with deeper installation than the first pass could reach. The revision continues.
Our Synovial Space Diagnostic is designed to provide a snapshot that surfaces narratives of movement potential in eight life pillars. If you take the free diagnostic several times over a period of time, you can track the patterns of your movement potential, and see which narratives are still operating the old code in new language.
